Ian Burke is a painter and printmaker who takes many of his ideas from the surrounding North York Moors and coast, incorporating the landscape, wildlife and heritage of the area. His oil paintings and woodblock relief prints are an extension of his observational drawings and experiences. Ian’s strong graphic linear technique and bold use of colour unite his woodblock and etched lino prints and his vibrant gestural paintings.
Born and educated in Redcar before studying Fine Art at Newcastle University and Goldsmith’s College, London, Ian taught in various schools for over forty years before relocating full time to his moorland home. Much of his recent work has been inspired by his 2024 residency at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate and reflects his love of flowers and gardens.
