Statement:

Andrew is a self taught artist who has drawn and painted all his life, using art as a coping mechanism during a long career as a commercial lawyer. Now a full time artist, his principal medium is soft pastel, and he is an Associate Artist with Unison Colour Soft Pastels.

He often works with mixed media, in particular using watercolour, ink and liquid graphite in various combinations, together with his favourite pastels. He also enjoys working in oil from time to time.

Preferring to work en plein air whenever possible, Andrew seeks to produce expressive and energetic paintings to uplift and inspire the viewer, and he likes to think of these as a reflection of his own active lifestyle (he is also a karate instructor, a runner and a gym and yoga addict!).

Andrew's favourite subjects are the Yorkshire Dales, close to his home in Harrogate, and the endless opportunities provided by the North York Moors and the Yorkshire coast.
